Speed up your Windows PC

If you have a Windows desktop or laptop that was purchased more than a year or two ago it likely came with a standard Hard Disk Drive (HDD). This type of drive has been around for decades and has proven to be generally reliable. But it can slow down or fail completely with use as it relies on moving parts which generate heat and wear out.

Converting your HDD to a Solid State Drive (SSD) will speed your Windows startup time to about one minute. And it will increase your speed accessing program data and stored files by up to 7.5 times.

How we convert your drive from HDD to SDD is basic. We take you old drive and clone it with special software then swap it out. Doing it this way ensures no data is lost and your computer operates just as it did before – except way faster!

Generally we use Western Digital or Kingston Technology SSD products which use the SATA III connection. For most laptops the SSD’s simply fit into the space where your HDD lived. With Desktops we have to add a bracket for the smaller SSD to fit into the bay where your HDD was installed. We would generally use the same size of drive as you have but if you really need more space we can go to a larger drive – this process takes a bit more time as we have to change the volume sizes on the new SSD once it is cloned.

What we do:

  • Clone your existing HDD to a new SSD
  • Remove HDD and install new SSD
  • Startup Windows and check drive integrity
  • Run Deployment Image Servicing and Management Windows tool to check and repair your Windows system image
  • Run System File Checker tool to replace missing or corrupted system files using the repaired recovery image
  • Run a registry cleaner to clean up old registry files.

Costs on SSD’s can range depending on the size. Most PC’s come with a 500GB or 1 TB drive and a new SSD in these sizes run $125.00 – $150.00 usually. If you have a larger drive or need more space then 2 TB or 4 TB SSD drives can run from $275.00 to $500.00.

Our labor costs for the above work is generally 4 hours or $125.00. Additional work such as virus and malware removal or removal of software that may compromise your safety and privacy can be done at an additional $30.00 per hour.

Already have SSD and just need more space?

We can do that too!! It is all the same process – we clone your existing SATA SSD 2.5 Form Factor or the newer NVMe format to a larger version. Or if your device has space for a second drive – either SATA SSD or NVMe we can add a second drive for file storage.
